I have drafts for two posts I've been meaning to share here but keep putting off. Now that I've just started a full-time job where I stare at not just one but two screens all day and edit other people's photos, the last thing I want to do when I get home is stare at my own screen and photos. So the posts will have to wait a little while my eyes focus on books and observing the things around me instead, and my brain concentrates on learning from my co-workers.

And while we're on the subject of books, I'm taking book recommendations. I'm looking for novels about academia and the art world mostly, but if you have any others, go right ahead! I spend an hour and forty minutes on the bus each day so I have a lot of time to read.

  1. Eegads! Is that how long the bus ride is to St. John's from our 'hood? That stinks. I just bought a book I haven't had a chance to crack open yet, but it looks promising -- On Photography by Susan Sontag. I've read other non-art related things by her in college before, can't wait to see what she has to say about photo making. I'm currently in the middle of an epic fantasy novel though so if you'd like to borrow my copy of On Photography you are more than welcome!

  2. I haven't read any photography books lately but I've read some other fiction books that I really enjoyed. I just finished Wildwood by Colin Meloy (a kids book, kinda fantasy set in St. John's and Forest Park... it's really great!) You're welcome to borrow my copy. I also have Blue Shoe by Anne Lamott which I really enjoyed. I love her voice. You're welcome to it too. I can suggest more but I'll stop there for now. I love your new-ish look of your blog (I haven't visited in so long!). It's so clean here. Happy new year!

  3. I must say congrats again on the job! Where are you working?

I really enjoyed Jon Canlas' book 'Film is Not Dead' and am just finishing up Helmut Newton's Autobiography. Let me know if you have any recommendations! I'm always on the hunt for new literature...
